Mads Nielsen
Mads Nielsen explores painting as an act of transgression and dissolution, a process where the image pushes beyond its limits to become a physical and sensory experience. His research engages in a dialogue with Renaissance and Baroque painting, evoking atmospheres of tension, collapse, and rebirth. Through powerful and visceral representation, Nielsen stages floating bodies, burning landscapes, and fragments of matter dissolving into smoke and light, evoking what he himself defines as the "catastrophization of the sacred."

His works are not simply images to be contemplated, but painterly events where color and matter transform, evoking the desire for a beauty that emerges from ruin. With a language reminiscent of late-Renaissance Mannerism, he abandons idealization to reflect contemporary tensions, creating scenarios where endings and beginnings intertwine in a vortex of cosmic energy.
